Conrod bushing set (4 pieces) from Kolbenschmidt, part number 87344690 (Glyco 55-3443/4), for 1.6- and 1.7-liter swirl chamber diesel engines in numerous VW and Audi models such as Golf, Jetta, Passat and Audi 80.
NOS – factory-sealed plastic pouch · Complete engine set of 4 · Collector detail: manufactured before 1990
Condition of this part
New old stock (NOS) in the original blue Kolbenschmidt box with the factory print "AG – West Germany" – an indication of manufacture before 1990. The four bushings are untouched in the factory-sealed KS plastic pouch, oil-preserved, with bright running surfaces. The box shows clear storage marks: label yellowed, corners knocked, slight lid deformation. The bushings are sold untested.
Function and location
The conrod bushing is the plain bearing between the piston pin and the connecting rod. It is pressed into the small end of the conrod and accommodates the oscillating movement of the piston pin. A steel backing provides a firm fit, and a sintered lead-bronze running layer enables the high surface pressure in diesel operation. The SEMI version offered here is pre-manufactured with an undersize inner diameter and must be bored or reamed to final size after pressing in – a classic engine-rebuilder's part.
The bushing sits in the small (upper) end of each connecting rod, directly under the piston. 4 pieces are needed per 4-cylinder engine; this set is a complete engine set. Housing bore 27.000–27.052 mm, width 25.0 mm, pin final size 24.0 mm. Replacement is only possible with the engine disassembled and should be carried out by specialists.
