How can you tell a cold start valve is defective?
The cold start valve of the Bosch KE-Jetronic injects extra, finely atomized fuel into the intake manifold when starting the cold engine, enriching the mixture. It is controlled via the thermo-time switch, which limits the injection duration depending on temperature. If the valve fails, this additional cold-start enrichment is missing, and the cold engine starts poorly.
The valve is located on the intake manifold or intake plenum, bolted via a 2-hole flange. Fuel supply is via a union nut fitting, and it is controlled via a 2-pin connector.
