Vehicle system and function
With the key removed, the steering lock blocks the steering shaft and carries the lock cylinder, ignition starter switch (terminals 15, 15R, 15X, 30, 50, P30) and the warning buzzer contact “key in lock”. The cable connects the lock to the automatic selector lever: the lever can only be moved out of “P” when the key is turned.
Installation location: On the right of the steering column under the dashboard. The cable is screwed to the side of the lock with a knurled nut and runs to the selector lever in the center console.
Condition: Used genuine part from a W202 diesel with automatic, with normal signs of use on the die-cast housing. The cable to the selector lever lock is firmly attached; a metal folding key blade without plastic housing is included as the key. Contacts and connectors complete.

Important distinction – please check before buying
⚠ According to the Mercedes parts catalog
The cable 202 267 01 64 belongs to the model codes 202.018, 202.020, 202.022, 202.028, 202.120, 202.121, 202.125, 202.128 (W202 sedan with automatic). For these vehicles the catalog lists the steering lock A 202 462 03 30. The spare part number is not stamped on the housing – please compare housing shape, cable connection and connector with your old part using the pictures.
⚠ Separate key code
The lock is supplied with its own lock cylinder and the enclosed metal folding key blade. The doors and trunk lid of your vehicle cannot be opened with it; the key has no plastic housing and no remote control.
⚠ Later version
For the C 230 Kompressor, C 280 with V6 from 1997 and the SLK R170 there is a modified lock with the number A 202 460 09 04.
⚠ Does not fit:
- W202 with manual transmission – without cable to the selector lever lock
- Wagon S202
- W124 and W201 – different lock system
- W203 and later model series – electric steering lock
- SLK R170 – separate lock cylinder

FAQ
Can I continue to use my existing key?
Only if the lock cylinder of your old lock is transferred. Without conversion, the enclosed folding key blade goes with this lock.
