Vehicle system and function
Simple working relay (normally open): when the coil receives current via 85 and 86, the contact connects terminal 30 to 87 and thus switches the load. In the Audi 80 it supplies the fog lights; on VW it sits in the headlight and fog light assembly group.
Installation location: Slot in the relay carrier of the central electrics; on the Audi 80 B4 position 01 of the relay box in the engine compartment (without fog lights, a jumper is fitted there).
Condition: Used genuine part with normal signs of use on the housing (marking MP Italy, 12 V 40 A). Four blade terminals, some with patina. There are 40 pcs with the same relay and part number available, one unit is pictured – supplier and date markings may differ. Price applies per piece.

⚠ Four-pole normally open relay
Relay 204 has only terminals 30, 85, 86 and 87. The five-pole changeover relay 431 951 253 D (relay 205) is not a replacement.
⚠ Later numbers
Relay 204 was later replaced by 141 951 253 B (relay 53), then 8D0 951 253 A (relay 373) and 4H0 951 253 A.
⚠ Does not fit:
- 431 951 253 D – relay 205, five-pole changeover relay
- 431 951 253 F – relay 206, idle speed increase
- 431 951 253 C – double normally open relay 2 × 10 A
