Function and location
The complete steering lock casting combines a lock cylinder, locking pin and a round, 7-pin ignition starter switch with terminals 30, 15 and 50 as well as P30 for the parking light. When the key is removed, the locking pin extends and locks the steering column.
The lock is installed on the steering column tube under the steering column trim; it is fastened via the flange holes.
How can you tell if an ignition lock-steering lock is faulty?
- The key is hard to turn or won't turn at all
- The steering stays locked even after turning the key, because the locking pin doesn't retract
- The starter motor doesn't engage even though the key is in the start position (terminal 50)
- Ignition and connected loads (terminal 15) fail sporadically
- The parking light (terminal P30) can't be switched
Compatible vehicles
W123 model series – petrol (approx. 1976–1986):
- 200, 230, 230 E, 250, 280, 280 E
- also Coupé C123 and T-model S123
S-Class W126/C126 (up to approx. 09/1989):
- Sedan W126 (SE/SEL)
- Coupé C126 (SEC)
On W126 vehicles from approx. 10/1989, a modified lock cylinder was fitted – see "not to be confused with" below.
This ignition lock-steering lock carries the housing stamping of the so-called 0160 family, as fitted in the W123 and W126 model series. A later, outwardly similar steering lock generation for the W201/W124 era is identified by the stamping 1900.01; this does not fit this part.
⚠ Important: compare the part number before buying
There are several steering lock generations for Mercedes-Benz vehicles; design and connector pattern are decisive. Please compare the design, connector pattern and – if present on your old part – the part number 1:1 with the product photos before ordering. The lock also comes with its own keying and therefore does not match the rest of your vehicle's lock system (doors, trunk) unless the cylinder is re-keyed.
Does not fit:
- the newer design of the W201/W124 era (stamping 1900.01)
- W126 from approx. 10/1989 (modified lock cylinder)
- W113 Pagoda, early W108/W111, W110 (other lock families)

FAQ
Is the key included in the scope of delivery?
Yes, the steering lock is supplied with the matching key. This was tested and turns smoothly through all positions; the further scope of delivery can be seen in the product photos.
Does the lock also fit my door locks?
No. The steering lock comes with its own keying and does not open your vehicle's doors or trunk. For a uniform lock system, the lock cylinder must be re-keyed.
Can I return the part if it doesn't fit?
Yes, a 60-day return policy and free shipping within Germany apply.
